We think there might be a problem. Who do we go see?

Dr. Beth Taylor, MD, FRCSC's Response

  • If you think you might have a problem conceiving, seeing your family doctor is a good first step. Your family doctor will often do the initial fertility assessment and testing, or refer you to a specialist such as an obstetrician/gynecologist (Ob/Gyn) or infertility doctor.
  • If you do not have a family doctor, in many instances you can go directly to a fertility specialist without a referral. Fertility doctors are Ob/Gyns who have additional training in endocrinology (a branch of medicine that deals with the glands that secrete hormones) and fertility treatment. If the fertility doctor you wish to see requires a referral, you can often obtain one from a walk-in clinic doctor.
