Children who cook at home are more likely to enjoy fruits and veggies, a University of Alberta study says.
A provincewide survey of Grade 5 students found one-third of children reported helping with meal prep at least once a day, while another third of students said they helped out one to three times a week.
Researchers found children preferred fruits to vegetables, but those who helped out in the kitchen were 10% more likely to choose to eat veggies.
Lead author Yen Li Chu said in-school cooking classes and clubs could also help children make healthier food choices.
