Strawberries can help protect skin from harmful UVA rays, a new study has found.
Researchers in Italy and Spain applied a strawberry extract on skin cells and found the extract protected the cells from damage when exposed to UVA light.
The cells were exposed to a dose of UVA "equivalent to 90 minutes of midday summer sun in the French Riviera."
Lead author of the study, Maurizio Battino of the University Politecnica delle Marche in Italy, said it's an important breakthrough because it shows protecting skin with strawberries can help prevent cancer and other skin-related inflammatory and degenerative illnesses.
