Drinking beer to produce more breast milk is just one of the questionable folk remedies experts routinely dole out to moms dealing with breastfeeding issues, a new study has found.
An online survey of 124 "lactation consultants" affiliated with hospitals in 29 U.S. states found that 65% of them passed on advice that had no basis in science.
"Despite the frequency with which such advice is given, there is little empirical evidence to support the use of most of the remedies listed," said Dr. Jonathan Schaffir, an obstetrician at Ohio State University and leader of the study.
