Launched at last month's Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, the Mio Alpha watch just earned top nods as product of the year at the gigantic sports trade event ISPO in Munich.
The magic of the Mio is that it's the first heart-rate monitor sports watch that records heart rate continuously without a chest strap. It performs even while the wearer engages in vigorous exercise at speeds of 19 kilometers per hour without the need for extra attachments.
Real-time data can be transmitted from the gadget to iPhone or Android apps, so you can track your performance over time. The device was a hit on Kickstarter last year, raising three times its $100K goal. Geared to athletes, the Mio Alpha sells for $199 and is available in the US and Canada now -- with international shipping expected soon, according to the website.
