Birth control pill Esme-28 is being voluntarily recalled from the Canadian market, not long after another birth control pill from the same pharmaceutical company was recalled because a package of the drug was found to contain a placebo pill in place of an active pill.
Mylan Pharmaceuticals recalled Freya-28 on Aug. 27 after a package of the drug was found to contain a placebo. On Thursday, Mylan announced that it was expanding the recall to include Esme-28 because it can't rule out the possibility that brand was affected by the same packaging issue.
Consumers are advised to use a non-hormonal method of birth control and return unopened packages of Esme-28 to the pharmacy.
Questions and reports of adverse reactions should be reported to Health Canada at 1-800-267-9675.
