| Last week, I wrote about all the different ice cream treats available to satisfy your summer taste. Well, there's more than ice cream to refresh you on a hot summer day. The coffee companies have a variety of iced drinks available to suit all sorts of palates. Most are pretty delicious!
I must admit, it's hard for me to pass our local Second Cup without hearing the Iced Moccachino calling my name. But, before I answer the call -- and you should think about this as well -- there's more to these fancy iced drinks than a refreshing break.
When it comes to these foamy, frothy works of art, the common denominator between them is coffee. The drinks themselves come in a wide range of flavours as well as an even wider range of calories and fat!
Many are very sweet from syrup and/or sugar and some are higher in fat from the whipped cream and whole milk. If you are calorie and/or fat conscious, choose the smallest size, the lowest fat milk and pass on the whipped cream or extra chocolate. Plain coffee (regular, decaf or espresso) on ice has no calories or fat so good choices include the iced coffees or lattes made with skim or 1% milk. Many also offer sodas or fruit drinks as an alternate.
