How does Novo-Diltiazem HCL ER work? What will it do for me?
Diltiazem belongs to a family of medications known as calcium channel blockers. It is used to treat high blood pressure and angina (chest pain). It works by relaxing blood vessels and by reducing the workload of the heart. The injectable form of this medication is sometimes used in the hospital to bring abnormal heart rhythms under control.
Your doctor may have suggested this medication for conditions other than the ones listed in these drug information articles. If you have not discussed this with your doctor or are not sure why you are taking this medication, speak to your doctor. Do not stop taking this medication without consulting your doctor.
How should I use Novo-Diltiazem HCL ER?
The recommended dose of diltiazem can range from 30 mg to 360 mg daily. The capsules should not be chewed or crushed.
Many things can affect the dose of medication that a person needs, such as body weight, other medical conditions, and other medications. If your doctor has recommended a dose different from the ones listed here, do not change the way that you are taking the medication without consulting your doctor.
It is important that this medication be taken exactly as prescribed by your doctor. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible and continue on with your regular schedule. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue on with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.
Keep this and other medications out of the reach of children.
Do not give this medication to anyone else, even if they have the same symptoms as you do. It can be harmful for people to take this medication if their doctor has not prescribed it.
Do not dispose of medications in wastewater (e.g. down the sink or in the toilet) or in household garbage. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medications that are no longer needed or have expired.

120 mg
Each lavender/lavender extended-release capsule, imprinted, in white ink, with "Dilt HCl ER 120", contains diltiazem HCl 120 mg. Nonmedicinal ingredients: black iron oxide, eudragit, gelatin, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, polysorbate, povidone, simethicone, sucrose stearate, talc and titanium dioxide. May also contains one or more of the following dyes: D&C Red No. 28, FD&C Blue No. 1, FD&C Green No. 3 and FD&C Red No. 40.
180 mg
Each bluish green/white extended-release capsule, imprinted, in black ink, with "Dilt HCl ER 180", contains diltiazem HCl 180 mg. Nonmedicinal ingredients: black iron oxide, eudragit, gelatin, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, polysorbate, povidone, simethicone, sucrose stearate, talc and titanium dioxide. May also contains one or more of the following dyes: D&C Red No. 28, FD&C Blue No. 1, FD&C Green No. 3 and FD&C Red No. 40.
240 mg
Each lavender/bluish green extended-release capsule, imprinted, in white ink, with "Dilt HCl ER 240", contains diltiazem HCl 240 mg. Nonmedicinal ingredients: black iron oxide, eudragit, gelatin, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, polysorbate, povidone, simethicone, sucrose stearate, talc and titanium dioxide. May also contains one or more of the following dyes: D&C Red No. 28, FD&C Blue No. 1, FD&C Green No. 3 and FD&C Red No. 40.
300 mg
Each lavender/white extended-release capsule, imprinted, in black ink, with "Dilt HCl ER 300", contains diltiazem HCl 300 mg. Nonmedicinal ingredients: black iron oxide, eudragit, gelatin, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, polysorbate, povidone, simethicone, sucrose stearate, talc and titanium dioxide. May also contains one or more of the following dyes: D&C Red No. 28, FD&C Blue No. 1, FD&C Green No. 3 and FD&C Red No. 40.
360 mg
Each bluish green/bluish green extended-release capsule, imprinted, in white ink, with "Dilt HCl ER 360", contains diltiazem HCl 360 mg. Nonmedicinal ingredients: black iron oxide, eudragit, gelatin, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, polysorbate, povidone, simethicone, sucrose stearate, talc and titanium dioxide. May also contains one or more of the following dyes: D&C Red No. 28, FD&C Blue No. 1, FD&C Green No. 3 and FD&C Red No. 40.

Who should NOT take Novo-Diltiazem HCL ER?
This medication should not be taken by anyone who:
- has certain types of heart rhythm problems
- is allergic to diltiazem or any ingredients of the medication
- has severe low blood pressure
- has weakened pumping action of the heart
- is or may become pregnant
