High blood pressure: For high blood pressure, the adult dose of doxazosin ranges from 1 mg to 16 mg daily, depending on the needs and circumstances of the individual. The recommended initial dose of doxazosin for blood pressure is 1 mg once daily.
BPH: For symptoms of enlarged prostate, the dose ranges from 1 mg to 8 mg once daily depending on the needs and circumstances of the individual. The recommended initial dose of doxazosin for BPH is 1 mg once daily.
Doxazosin can be taken with or without food.
Many things can affect the dose of medication that a person needs, such as body weight, other medical conditions, and other medications. If your doctor has recommended a dose different from the ones listed here, do not change the way that you are taking the medication without consulting your doctor.
It is very important that this medication be taken on a regular schedule as prescribed by the doctor. If you miss a dose of this medication, take it as soon as you remember it. Nonmedicinal ingredients: lactose, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, pregelatinized starch, sodium lauryl sulfate and sodium starch glycolate.
2 mg
Each white, capsule-shaped, scored tablet engraved N beside N on scored side and "2" on the other, contains doxazosin mesylate equivalent to doxazosin 2 mg. Nonmedicinal ingredients: lactose, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, pregelatinized starch, sodium lauryl sulfate and sodium starch glycolate.
4 mg
Each white, modified diamond-shape, scored tablet engraved N beside N on scored side and "4" on the other, contains doxazosin mesylate equivalent to doxazosin 4 mg. Nonmedicinal ingredients: lactose, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, pregelatinized starch, sodium lauryl sulfate and sodium starch glycolate.
Some medications may have other generic brands available. Always ask your doctor or pharmacist about the safety of switching between brands of the same medication.
Anyone with a known allergy to doxazosin or quinazolines should not take this medication.
