How does Novo-Terbinafine work? What will it do for me?

Terbinafine belongs to the class of medications called antifungals. It is used for the treatment of certain types of fungal infections of the skin and nails.

How should I use Novo-Terbinafine?

Tablets: The recommended adult dose is 250 mg daily. Those with reduced liver or kidney function may need an adjustment to the dose. The length of treatment depends on the condition being treated and the severity of the infection.

Cream: Use the cream once or twice daily. Before applying, clean and thoroughly dry the affected areas. Apply the cream to the affected skin and surrounding area in a thin layer and rub it in lightly. The length of treatment depends on the condition being treated and the severity of the infection.

Spray: Use the spray once or twice daily, depending on the condition being treated. Before applying, clean and thoroughly dry the affected areas. Spray enough of the solution to thoroughly wet the treatment area and to cover the affected skin and surrounding area. Many things can affect the dose of medication that a person needs, such as body weight, other medical conditions, and other medications. If your doctor has recommended a dose different from the ones given here, do not change the way that you are taking the medication without consulting your doctor.

It is very important that this medication be taken exactly as prescribed. Use the medication for the prescribed length of time even if the infection clears up, to prevent it from coming back. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is the following day before you remember your next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.

This medication is available under multiple brand names and in several different forms. Any specific brand name of this medication may not be available in all of the forms listed here. Do not dispose of medications in wastewater (e.g. down the sink or in the toilet) or in household garbage. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medications that are no longer needed or have expired.

What form(s) does Novo-Terbinafine come in?

Each white to yellowish white, round, biconvex, bevel-edged scored tablet, engraved with "N|N" on one side and "250" on the other, contains terbinafine 250 mg (as HCl). Nonmedicinal ingredients: colloidal silicon dioxide, croscarmellose sodium, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, magnesium stearate and microcrystalline cellulose.

Some medications may have other generic brands available. Always ask your doctor or pharmacist about the safety of switching between brands of the same medication.

Who should NOT take Novo-Terbinafine?

Terbinafine should not to be used by anyone who is allergic to terbinafine or any of the ingredients of the medication.
