How does Apo-Amoxi work? What will it do for me?

Amoxicillin belongs to the group of medications known as antibiotics, specifically to the family of antibiotics known as penicillins. Amoxicillin is used for the treatment of infections caused by certain types of bacteria. It kills some types of bacteria that can cause infections of the ear, sinus, chest, bone, bladder, and throat. Amoxicillin may also be used for prevention of infections that can be caused by certain dental or medical procedures.

Your doctor may have suggested this medication for conditions other than the ones listed in these drug information articles. How should I use Apo-Amoxi?

The recommended adult dose of amoxicillin varies widely depending on the age group and the condition being treated, but the medication is usually taken in three daily doses, once every eight hours. Amoxicillin can be taken with or without meals.

Many things can affect the dose of medication that a person needs, such as the severity of the condition, body weight, other medical conditions, and other medications. If your doctor has recommended a dose different from the ones listed here, do not change the way that you are taking the medication without consulting your doctor.

It is very important to take this medication exactly as prescribed until the course of treatment has been completed. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible and continue on with your regular schedule. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue on with your regular dosing schedule. Do not double doses.
