Amoxicillin belongs to the group of medications known as antibiotics, specifically to the family of antibiotics known as penicillins. Amoxicillin is used for the treatment of infections caused by certain types of bacteria. It kills some types of bacteria that can cause infections of the ear, sinus, chest, bone, bladder, and throat. Amoxicillin may also be used for prevention of infections that can be caused by certain dental or medical procedures.

The recommended adult dose of amoxicillin varies widely depending on the age group and the condition being treated, but the medication is usually taken in three daily doses, once every eight hours. Amoxicillin can be taken with or without meals.
Many things can affect the dose of medication that a person needs, such as the severity of the condition, body weight, other medical conditions, and other medications. If your doctor has recommended a dose different from the ones listed here, do not change the way that you are taking the medication without consulting your doctor.
It is very important to take this medication exactly as prescribed until the course of treatment has been completed. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible and continue on with your regular schedule. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue on with your regular dosing schedule. Do not double doses.

Each scarlet red and gold No. 2 capsule, identified NU 250, contains amoxicillin trihydrate equivalent to amoxicillin 250 mg. Nonmedicinal ingredients: colloidal silicon dioxide, croscarmellose sodium, D&C red No. 28, D&C red No. 40, D&C yellow No. 10, FD&C Blue No. 1, FD&C yellow No. 6, gelatin, silicon dioxide, sodium lauryl sulfate, stearic acid and titanium dioxide. Energy: <1 kJ (0.21 kcal). Gluten- and tartrazine-free.
500 mg
Each scarlet red and gold No. 0 capsule, identified NU 500, contains amoxicillin trihydrate equivalent to amoxicillin 500 mg. Nonmedicinal ingredients: colloidal silicon dioxide, croscarmellose sodium, D&C red No. 28, D&C red No. 40, D&C yellow No. 10, FD&C Blue No. 1, FD&C yellow No. 6, gelatin, silicon dioxide, sodium lauryl sulfate, stearic acid and titanium dioxide. Energy: 1.52 kJ (0.36 kcal). Gluten- and tartrazine-free.
Suspensions
125 mg
After reconstitution each 5 mL of strawberry-flavoured suspension contains amoxicillin trihydrate equivalent to amoxicillin 125 mg. Nonmedicinal ingredients: artificial strawberry flavouring, guar gum, sodium benzoate, sodium citrate and sucrose. Energy: 38.21 kJ (9.12 kcal)/5 mL. Sodium: <1 mmol (2.18 mg)/5 mL. Paraben-, sulfite- and tartrazine-free.
250 mg
After reconstitution each 5 mL of banana-flavoured suspension contains amoxicillin trihydrate equivalent to amoxicillin 250 mg. Nonmedicinal ingredients: artificial banana flavouring, D&C yellow No. 10 aluminum lake 16%, guar gum, sodium benzoate, sodium citrate and sucrose. Energy: 37.3 kJ (8.91 kcal)/5 mL. Sodium: <1 mmol (2.6 mg)/5 mL. Paraben-, sulfite- and tartrazine-free.
