Aliskiren belongs to a group of medications known as direct renin inhibitors. These medications reduce blood pressure by blocking the actions of a chemical (renin) that causes blood vessels to tighten.
Aliskiren is used treat high blood pressure. It may be used alone or in combination with other blood-pressure-lowering medications. You may notice an effect on your blood pressure within 2 weeks of starting the medication.
This medication may be available under multiple brand names and/or in several different forms. Any specific brand name of this medication may not be available in all of the forms or approved for all of the conditions discussed here. The usual starting dose of aliskiren is 150 mg taken by mouth once daily. The usual dose ranges from 150 mg to 300 mg taken by mouth once daily. Aliskiren may be taken with or without food. Swallow the tablets whole with a small amount of water. Do not chew or crush the tablets.
It is important to take this medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one. If you are not sure what to do after missing a dose, contact your doctor or pharmacist for advice.
Many things can affect the dose of medication that a person needs, such as body weight, other medical conditions, and other medications. If your doctor has recommended a dose different from the ones listed here, do not change the way that you are taking the medication without consulting your doctor.
Store this medication at room temperature, protect it from light and moisture, and keep it out of the reach of children.

Each light-pink, biconvex round, film-coated tablet, imprinted with "NVR" on one side and "IL" on the other side, contains 150 mg of aliskiren. Nonmedicinal ingredients: colloidal silicon dioxide, crospovidone, hypromellose, iron oxide colorants, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, polyethylene glycol, povidone, talc, and titanium dioxide.
Each light-red biconvex ovaloid, film-coated tablet, imprinted with "NVR" on one side and "IU" on the other side, contains 300 mg of aliskiren.
