How does ratio-Lenoltec work? What will it do for me?

This combination product contains three medications: acetaminophen, codeine, and caffeine.

Acetaminophen belongs to the group of medications called analgesics (pain relievers) and antipyretics (fever reducers).

Codeine belongs to the group of medications called narcotic analgesics.

Caffeine belongs to the group of medications called stimulants.

This combination of medications is used to treat mild-to-moderate pain associated with conditions such as headache, dental pain, muscle pain, painful menstruation, pain following an accident, and pain following operations.

Your doctor may have suggested this medication for conditions other than those listed in these drug information articles. As well, some forms of this medication may not be used for all of the conditions discussed here. If you have not discussed this with your doctor or are not sure why you are taking this medication, speak to your doctor. Do not stop taking this medication without consulting your doctor.

Do not give this medication to anyone else, even if they have the same symptoms as you do. It can be harmful for people to take this medication if their doctor has not prescribed it.

How should I use ratio-Lenoltec?

The usual recommended adult dose is 1 or 2 tablets taken every 4 hours as required. The dose should be adjusted according to the amount of pain experienced. The maximum dose of this medication is 12 tablets in 24 hours.

If recommended by a doctor or dentist, children 12 to 14 years of age may take 1 tablet 3 to 4 times daily.

Many things can affect the dose of a medication that a person needs, such as body weight, other medical conditions, and other medications. If your doctor has recommended a dose different from the ones listed here, do not change the way that you are taking the medication without consulting your doctor.

Acetaminophen should not be taken to relieve pain for more than 5 days or to relieve a fever for more than 3 days, unless directed by a doctor.

It is important to take this medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor. If your doctor has told you to take this medication on a regular basis and you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible and continue with your regular schedule. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one. If you are not sure what to do after missing a dose, contact your doctor or pharmacist for advice.

Store this medication at room temperature, protect it from light and moisture, and keep it out of reach of children.

Caplets
Each white, oblong, biconvex caplet, engraved "TEC" and "1" on one side, reverse side plain, contains acetaminophen 300 mg, caffeine 15 mg, and codeine phosphate 8 mg. Nonmedicinal ingredients: colloidal silicon dioxide, crospovidone, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, povidone, pregelatinized cornstarch, sodium croscarmellose, and stearic acid. This medication does not contain alcohol, gluten, parabens, sucrose, sulfites, or tartrazine.

Tablets
Each round, white, biplane tablet with bevelled edges, engraved "TEC" and "1" on one side, reverse side plain, contains acetaminophen 300 mg, caffeine 15 mg, and codeine phosphate 8 mg. Nonmedicinal ingredients: colloidal silicon dioxide, crospovidone, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, povidone, pregelatinized cornstarch, sodium croscarmellose, and stearic acid. This medication does not contain alcohol, gluten, parabens, sucrose, sulfites, or tartrazine.

Each round, white, biplane tablet with bevelled edges, engraved "TEC" and "2" on one side, reverse side plain, contains acetaminophen 300 mg, caffeine 15 mg, and codeine phosphate 15 mg. Nonmedicinal ingredients: colloidal silicon dioxide, crospovidone, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, povidone, pregelatinized cornstarch, sodium croscarmellose, and stearic acid. This medication does not contain alcohol, gluten, parabens, sucrose, sulfites, or tartrazine.

ratio-Lenoltec No. 3
Each round, white, biplane tablet with bevelled edges, engraved "TEC" and "3" on one side, reverse side plain, contains acetaminophen 300 mg, caffeine 15 mg, and codeine phosphate 30 mg. Nonmedicinal ingredients: colloidal silicon dioxide, crospovidone, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, povidone, pregelatinized cornstarch, sodium croscarmellose, and stearic acid. This medication does not contain alcohol, gluten, parabens, sucrose, sulfites, or tartrazine.

Who should NOT take ratio-Lenoltec?

Do not take this medication if you are:

  • allergic to acetaminophen, to codeine, to caffeine, or to any of the ingredients of the medication
  • 12 years of age or younger
