Expert Opinion: Cholesterol

Question

Is it unusual to be taking more than one medication for high cholesterol?
Dr Choi's response:

No, it is not unusual. In fact, certain patients will require more than two types of cholesterol medications. The only concern is side effects. In general, once you start needing more than two kinds of drugs, it is best to be referred to a specialized type of clinic where cardiologists, endocrinologists, or other medical specialists with an interest in this area can better manage difficult to control cholesterol levels.
